ANTI-SOCIAL MEDIA

WHY DO WE HANG ONTO THINGS WE KNOW ARE BAD FOR US?  WE OFTEN SAY THE GOOD OUT WEIGHS THE BAD, OR THERE ARE NECESSARY EVILS.  I HAVE YET TO FIND EVIL TO BE NECESSARY.  WHAT I AM AMAZED ABOUT IS THE NEED FOR SOCIAL MEDIA IN THE CHURCH.  WE SAY IT IS NECESSARY PLATFORMS TO REACH PEOPLE.  BUT AREN'T THERE OTHER WAYS?

OF COURSE THERE ARE, BUT I'M AFRAID WE GET SUCKED INTO THESE THINGS MORE OFTEN JUSTIFYING THE BAD SIMPLY BECAUSE IT'S EASIER OR MORE ATTRACTIVE TO OUR CARNALITY.

IN RECENT STUDIES IT HAS BEEN PROVEN THE ADVERSE AFFECTS SOCIAL MEDIA HAS UPON THE USER, ESPECIALLY THE YOUNG.  FOR THE YOUNG, WHOSE MIND AND THOUGHT PROCESS IS STILL BEING FORMED, WE HAVE SEEN THE MENTAL AND SOCIAL NEGATIVE AFFECTS, BUT HOW MANY PARENTS ARE ELIMINATING SOCIAL MEDIA FROM THEIR CHILDREN?  FEW.  THIS IS BECAUSE YOU WILL FIND THE AVERAGE ADULT ADDICTED TO SOCIAL MEDIA THEMSELVES.  KIND OF LIKE BACK IN THE DAY WHEN WE TOLD OUR KIDS NOT TO SMOKE, BUT STILL SMOKED, AND WE WONDERED WHY OUR KIDS SMOKED.

OF COURSE WE SEE SO MANY MINISTRIES USING ANTI-SOCIAL MEDIA TO PROMOTE THEIR MINISTRIES.  BUT WOULDN'T IT SEEM REASONABLE WHEN SOMETHING THAT IS DETRIMENTAL TO THE WELL-BEING OF SOCIETY THAT MAYBE THE CHURCH NEEDS TO RETHINK ITS ASSOCIATION WITH ANTI-SOCIAL MEDIA.

I KNOW I HAVE, AND I'VE YET TO FIND JUSTIFICATION TO USE OR BE ON ANTI-SOCIAL MEDIA ANY LONGER.  MAYBE I'M NOT SEEING THE GOOD, BUT I'VE SEEN ENOUGH BAD TO SAY NO MORE.
